Friendly, well organised, inclusive 10K
Lovely though the medals are I’d have been happy with the glass from siren and more water stations en route (it was quite a warm run!)
Good atmosphere for the inaugural event
Just my opinion, but I didn’t like the 11am start time. Appreciate that there had to be a route change but my preference would be 1 lap not 2. Varied route had something for everyone, but the unmade path had many bricks sticking out and could have been nasty if I’d fallen. Water station at 5k was awkward as we had to wait for water to be poured, which added time. Very tight at the start/finish; the queue for beer/glasses was long and impacted on getting across the finish line and over to get back to the bag drop. Great atmosphere though, helped by the fab marshals, especially the ladies at the 5k/turn back into the industrial estate at Hogwood Rd, and the weather (too hot for me!)
The 11am start is due to licencing for the brewery. Appreciate and noted comments about the start/finish line.
Very fun run with great atmosphere
Really fun day out with friends. Great atmosphere but the finish could have done with some more organisation as the queue for the free beer was a bit long and ran out towards the end.
great fun to do a local 10km run, well done, look forward to the next one please
Great fun, great beer what else do you need.
A little more organisation needed at the finish line, we were all so desperate for our beer it became a bit chaotic.
Lovely local event
Beer…yum
Busy at the end, move start/finish line.
Would’ve preferred an earlier start time, as too hot.
Great day out!
The queue for beer afterwards needs a bit of thought, but the rest of the day was awesome!
Nice run - shame about the post run experience
Enjoyed the run but the organization after the event poor. After queuing in a very disorganized way for about 30 mins after finished, we were told the brewery had run out of beer! We got our free beer in the end after about another 20mins waiting. I think the winners completed the 10k quicker than it took us to get served. Given the number of people running, surely there could have been more bar staff (and beer!)
One other small point was that we were told no headphones were allowed. This was changed just before the run. As a consequence I could have used my bone conducting headphones to give me feedback on my pace, but I didn’t have them. What’s the point of rules that get changed at the last minute?
Sorry about the wait for the beer - something we will rectify for next time. Appreciate and noted your comment about clearer communication about headphones.
Appeared to attract more elite runners rather than beginners
Great day and happy with time, but disappointed to be so far back given a very average time.
Good but not great
It was great there were so many happy marshals and the route was clear. You can’t help the poor scenery if there are building works or location is a housing estate. There are several things for me that could be improved:
- signage from the car park (if you’re not local) it’s a lot to take in and wasn’t obvious in a public car park.
- the start time, was fairly late in the day in comparison to a 10k I ran in Essex, 2 weeks ago. Which meant the day is impacted more.
It also meant that it was hotter (and I know weather can’t be predicted) but an earlier start time would have helped.
- the post finish. It was hard to find water and the queue/ bar aspect left a lot to be desired given the number of runners, location and service time. It might be advisable to give cans away next time.
I would recommend attending a Hare and Tortoise event (Essex based) as they have a great set up and could help with ideas.
Thank you for your comments. - Signage from car park - noted + we will issue a map of the walking route from the car park. - Start time is dictated by the Brewery Licencing Laws - Agree about start/finish area
We were lucky with the weather
Queues for water and beer. Possibly could have prepoured beer
Lovely course, chaotic finish
The marshalling at the start and all the way around the course was so good, then the queue for the longed-for beer was unmarshalled with no queueing system and utter chaos.... then the beer ran out.
Sorry about the beer queue - I had NO idea it had ran out until I read these reviews, nobody came to tell me.... That would have been an easy one to fix!
Nice variety of surfaces but awful queue management at finish.
Lovely friendly event. Well signposted and marshalled. The only niggle was at finish we were funelled into same area where Siren were giving out the glasses and beer. This created some confusion and mess. There was nowhere to catch breath as people were standing around. Nobody was clear on where to go. At one point there were about 3 queues, one snaking around and looping past the shelter and 2 shorter queues. No ability to just collect the glass for non-drinkers (yes, perhaps don't run a brewery run but I did).
Another great event by Barnes Fitness
Great run, atmosphere, friendly marshalls, so grateful for the water station, great beer, snacks & atmosphere afterwards, loved the GF van, meant I could eat after the run. Great for first timers, friendly & very helpful marshalls and fantastic organised event
Always a treat to get a medal and a beer (with a glass to match your medal) at the finish line.
Really well organised event, friendly fun and rewarding. The course was safe and well sign posted and plenty of pre - tolilet oppotunties!
Fantastic inaugural race!
Everything was great! The only thing which Ellie did say about was the queuing for the beers after the race. Luckily it wasn’t busy when I got to the taps. But it took my friend 25 mins just to get the drink.
Enjoyable
Ran out of beer! Chaos with finish line and beer. No queueing just a mass of people. Not sure how a brewery which would know run numbers can run out of beer? Run village quite congested at end of with food etc. Needed a bigger area.
This is the first I (The Race Organiser, Ellie - on the microphone) knew that the beer ran out. If only somebody had said something to me I could have EASILY sorted this..... I will be sorting some compensation out for you - watch your Inbox.
A first time event. Just some minor tweaks
My only feedback is the finish and start area is cramped. As you cross the line you are met with a queue for the beer. Possibly bring the finish area forwards to cater for the amount of finishers. The course was ok. I had a minor accident due to the uneven path but that happens.
Amazing race with a beer reward!
Excellently organised event and great atmosphere! Perfect location at the brewery for a refreshing beer afterwards. Thank you Barnes Fitness!
